In an economy that is far from buoyant, and in times that are far from happy-go-lucky, it's easy to feel as though we need to think twice before spending money on a meal, or even on a trip without careful thought beforehand. Well, we have found a place that is the exception, a safehaven from all the guilt-ridden emotions that come along lately with indulging in a night out. FareStart in Seattle- if you haven't been, we strongly recommend a visit next time you pass through the Emerald City. This unique restaurant/culinary education center provides a 16 week fully comprenehsive training program for homeless and disadvantaged adults, which not only provides them with the skills tools necessary to push forward into a culinary career, but also allows them to regain their confidence that they can once again successfully reemerge from hard times and into a better place, mentally and physically. The students spend their time honing their skills, cooking for and serving the patrons of the restaurant with the utmost pride. From ts inception, FareStart has assisted over 3,000 people with skills and job placement services, while also serving over 3.5 MILLION meals to disadvantaged Seattle area citizens at the restaurant, in local shelters, and daycare centers as well. Their success is shared on a grand scale, with the owners also donating large portions of the profits towards community outreach initiatives designed to help children and adults alike. This place is a beautiful example of what is right with the world. Try it, it will make you feel great afterwards knowing that along with enjoying a great meal, you helped contribute to the greater good.
